SUBJECT: Feasibility Report for Medical Scrub Top Purchase

As requested by the Hospital Administrators, I have prepared a detailed feasibility report about purchasing medical scrub tops for the current hospital employees. The request was made to find and replace the current scrub tops that the hospital has on hand, because the existing garments are degrading in quality.

With cost being one of the main criteria concerns for the administrators, the information I have compiled also includes two other comparisons to help narrow down the options: durability of the scrubs and their functionality.

After careful and extensive research, the scrub top I found to be the best option for the hospital is the Workwear Unisex V-neck top, made by Cherokee, at a reasonable price of $16.98 each.

If you have any further questions, ideas, or concerns, I would be happy to address them. Please contact me at the.big.shabang@gmail.com.

Introduction

As health care workers, we must be equipped with sturdy and appropriate scrub uniforms. These outfits will endure a multitude of fluids from our patients and other foreign substances. That is why it is very important to maintain uniform quality.

In the past five years, the same scrubs in the hospital have been washed thousands of times. With each wear, and then wash, the integrity of the material and stitching has degraded over time. This decline in the scrub tops stability was presented to the administrators, and they quickly responded to this concern by confining in my research to rectify the situation.

This feasibility report will cover the administrators’ criteria for purchasing new scrub tops, compare and contrast three different brands of interest, and conclude with recommendations that will best suit the hospitals spending budget and long-term use of scrub tops.

Objectives

Since many different types of people will be wearing the scrub tops, I have chosen unisex and generic V-neck styles to respect all body types, and to stay close to the existing varity in the hospital.

The durability of the scrub tops, in regards to the type of fabric blends , is of high importance, because the goal is to have these circulate for a long time in the hospital. The functionality aspect is taken into consideration for the use of pockets, to carry different types of medical equipment around. The overall objective of this report is to find and compare different options of scrub tops, and narrow them down to a feasible, yet affordable choice.

Method

The data collected in this report was configured from the top three models of medical scrubs: Cherokee, Carhartt, and Koi. These brands are rated the highest among many health care workers, at a reasonable price. As I collected my information, I payed close attention to the hospital administrators’ list of important criteria:

  1. Cost: The given budget for purchasing scrub tops is between $15-$25 each. My goal is to find a scrub top in between that range.
  2. Durability: The fabric blend of the garment will determine how durable it is, and how long it can last. A scrub top with a higher polyester content will hold up longer than if the cotton ratio were higher. All three of the scrub tops I have listed are a blend of polyester and cotton.
  3. Functionality: It is important to have scrub tops with pockets in them, because as a medical professional, one must carry around an array of equipment; from notebooks, pens, and flashlights to scissors, clamps, and tape.

Below are tables of the three makes and models of scrub tops I have researched, the results of the three criteria comparisons, and user reviews from Amazon.com:

Discussion

All three of the listed scrub tops would be a great choice for the hospital, but there can only be one. All of the brands have three or more pockets on the front, but only the Carhartt and Koi brands have a pen slot. However, the Cherokee scrub top has a higher polyester fabric content and is also the least expensive of the three choices.  Both the Cherokee and Koi brands have side slits for easy torso movement. All three of the brands come in a wide range of colors and sizes, to accommodate the hospitals color scheme and workers individual sizing.

Conclusion

Cost, durability, and functionality were the important criteria to determine a scrub top purchase for the hospital. User reviews from Amazon.com were also helpful to include in this report, because these reviews came from people who have actually used the scrub tops in a medical setting.

All three of the brands, and their models, received high ratings and included the appropriate criteria. The high polyester content of the Cherokee scrub top shows how durable and long lasting it can be, while being the least expensive option cost wise. The Carhartt and Koi brands had great pocket options and included pen slots for easy functionality, however, both were considerably more expensive than the Cherokee brand. With being the least expensive and having the most durable fabric blend, the Cherokee brand, in my opinion, would be the best option for the hospital to purchase.

Recommendation

After careful consideration, I have decided on the Cherokee Workware Unisex V-neck scrub top being the best option for the hospital. The Cherokee brand received high durability ratings, and was praised for their price being lower than most scrub brands, at only $16.98 each. This particular scrub top will last a long time and I believe will satisfy the hospital employees as well. With the side slits, high polyester content, low cost, and the three pockets provided, the Cherokee Workware Unisex V-neck scrub top ensures a great purchase for the hospital and its health workers combined.
